Abstract:In this lecture, a general and geometrical mathematical description will be given first of Newtonian (classical) theory of particle motion, second of Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity and finally of Minkowski’s 4-dimensional geometrical reformulation of Special Relativity and his unification of Maxwell’s electric and magnetic fields. The role of Euclidean geometry will be stressed. If time permits, a brief extension to the geometrical aspects of general relativity and relativistic cosmology will also be described.
