Quantum effects in the early universe: From short distance physics to large scale observables

Abstract: There are various quantum effects in the early universe, which are important for cosmological evolution and have potentially observable signatures. Especially, quantum vacuum fluctuations during inflation are believed to seed the structure in the universe. We discuss various such effects by reviewing the general calculational framework and point out some open problems.
