Tirebolu is a subprovince (ilçe, usually translated into American English as `county') in the Giresun province. The administrative center is a town of the the same name, one of the most beautiful small towns on the eastern Black Sea coast of Turkey. The name is the distorted form of its ancient name, Tripolis, so named because of three castles nearby.
